Cause: vessel, built 1916 by russel & co. ltd. of port glasgow. owned at time of loss by clan line ss co. three boilers, triple expansion engine of 627 hp & lp turbine with direct gearing & hydraulic coupling. single shaft. machinery by j g kinkaid & co. of greenock. on passage from tyne for beira. foundered & lost following collision with british standard ship 'orlock head'. BADLY BROKEN, SINKING INTO SANDY SEABED. BOW QUITE DISORIENTATING AS TWISTED TO STARBOARD SIDE WITH FORWARD MAST DISAPPEARING INTO SEABED. HOLDS CONTAIN CERAMIC TILES, GLASS, MACHINERY AND LARGE PIPES. STERN IS MORE INTACT AND LYING ON PORT SIDE. NO MARKINGS ON ANY CERAMICS FOUND.
