Cause: built in 1937 by greenock dockyard co. owned at time by clan line. triple expansion engine and lp turbine of 1362nhp. passage calcutta for liverpool & the clyde in convoy hg3. torpedoed by u-48. cargo included: 1750 tons pig iron, 3300 tons tea, 1900 tons jute, 2500 tons general and dessicated coconut and cotton. (dods, lloyds war losses wwii, axis submarine successes 1939-45).
