Cause: ex-cheltonian, ex-glenvich. built in 1892 by ropner & son, stockton-on-tees for the glens ss co ltd (lindsay, gracie & co), leith. owned at time of loss by ferrovia della stat (italian state railways) having been requistioned. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 273 nhp, single shaft. machinery by blair & co, stockton. passage bilbao for newport. torpedoed by u-95.

H2959/73 11.7.73 NOTHING FOUND IN 501730N, 053830W BUT WK, BELIEVED TO BE THE GEMINI FROM ITS SIZE, LOCATED USING MAGNETOMETER IN 501730N, 053648W USING DECCA. BOILERS 12FT HIGH, ENGINE 14FT. ENTIRELY FLATTENED AND SCATTERED, LYING NNW/SSE. NO SIGN OF CARGO. (E.GILES) CHART AS WK 25MTRS. BR STD. HH100/351/14 13.11.98 DIVED IN 501727.5N, 053649W [OGB] USING GPS. DIFFICULT TO FIND WITHOUT MAGNETOMETER DUE TO LARGE REEFS IN THE VICINITY. SUPERSTRUCTURE ON SEABED BESIDE REMAINDER OF HULL PLATING. TWO BOILERS, ENGINE AND PROP SHAFT STILL RECOGNISABLE AND REASONABLY INTACT. HIGHEST POINT IS TOP OF ENGINE. 'LIVE' 12 POUNDER SHELL FOUND AT STERN, NO SIGN OF GUN AND NO VISIBLE MARKINGS ON SHELL. ORIENTATION 335.5/155.5DEGS. LENGTH 83MTRS. 1 VERTICAL AND 1 HORIZONTAL BOILER, 2 CYLINDER ENGINE, WITH 1FT DIAMETER PROPSHAFT. 2 LARGE WINCHES AFT OF BOILERS ON PORT SIDE. BOW FLATTENED AND UNRECOGNISABLE. HIGHEST POINT IS BOILERS & ENGINE STANDING 4.5MTRS. SEABED DEPTH AT LW NEAPS 33.8MTRS. BRIDGE FLATTENED, HULL IN PIECES. WK IS OF WW1 VINTAGE. (J ROSEVEARE/G FURSE, TELECON 30.9.02) NCA. 16.12.09 TWO BRASS VALVES RECOVERED FROM MIDDLE CYLINDER WITH MARKINGS: 'M1144'. RESEARCH CONFIRMS THAT BLAIR & ENGINE NUMBER 1144 WAS FITTED TO GLENVECH AT BUILD. VALVES IDENTICAL WITH THOSE FITTED TO 'ZONE', THUS CONFIRMING ENGINE MANUFACTURER TO BE BLAIR AND THIS WK TO BE CHRISTOS MARKETTOS. (G J LOCKETT, PERSONAL VISIT). NCA. 16.12.11 LOCATED 19.3.10 IN 5017.497N, 0536.892W [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 27.17 IN GEN DEPTH 32.0MTRS. NO SCOUR. LENGTH 95.5MTRS, WIDTH 18.8MTRS, HT 4.83MTRS. LIES 157/337 DEGS WITH BOWS NW.
