Load: armament,non-ferrous elements and ores: unrefined and refined,metal: concentrate and products

Cause: built in 1901 by richardson duck & co, stockton-on-tees. owned at time of loss by brys & glysen ltd. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 349nhp, single shaft. passage norfolk, virginia for le havre. torpedoed stbd side fwd and sank afer about one hour. (ww1sl, lloyds war losses, sibi, nr chipchase). cargo of 6525 tons munitions, 1050 tons copper, 507 tons brass & 1500 tons steel. salvage work by 'sorima' took place on this wk in 1937 and some 90% of the cargo was recovered. (n r chipchase).

DCS3 HT 8.6MTRS. LIES 135/315 DEGS. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. WELL BROKEN UP AND SURROUNDED BY SCATTERED DEBRIS. (GARDLINE, HI 961). AMEND WK 46MTRS. BR STD. HH100/351/22 9.5.06 HH100/351/22 9.5.06 'SORIMA' WORKED THE WK IN 1937 AND RECOVERED MORE THAN 90% OF THE CARGO. MAIN HULL IS UPRIGHT BUT THE HOLDS HAVE BEEN EXTENSIVELY GRABBED. BOW AREA AT THE W END IS WELL SMASHED AND THERE ARE LARGE SHELLS (8 INCH) IN THIS AREA. THE BELL WAS RECOVERED CLOSE TO A DETACHED WINCH IN 2006. BOILERS & ENGINE ARE ISOLATED, THE TOP OF THE ENGINE BEING AT 50MTRS DEPTH. PROP SHAFT RUNS THROUGH THE REMAINS OF THE AFTER HOLDS TO ARRIVE AT THE TOWERING STERN SECTION, THE PROP AND RUDDER LIE ON THE SEABED. SCALLOPER DREDGERS SAY THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO RUN THROUGH THE WK SECTIONS BETWEEN 5019.15N, 0303.17W AND 5019.09N, 0303.12W [WGD]. (N R CHIPCHASE). NCA.
