Cause: 8.7.40 built in 1940 by f de c de la mediterranee. a french submarine chaser. two oil engines of 1100 bhp total for 16 knots. commissioned as hm ship 8.7.40, but in december 1942 taken over by the free french. capsized one year later after being broached by a following sea in a sw force 9.

(E BENNETT, 3.10.68) 17.9.70 MR BENNETT PURCHASED WK FROM THE CONSUL GENERAL OF THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT. (E BENNETT, TELECON). H1968/77 17.8.81 STATED BY MR BENNETT TO LIE 076DEGS, 6.9C FROM DURLESTON HD & TO LIE ON TRANSIT:- PEVERIL CGFS & HOUSE 308DEGS(G). THIS IS APPROX 503550N, 015540W. NOT FOUND. MAY BE BETWEEN HIGH RIDGES IN THIS AREA. POSSIBLE E/S CONTACT IN 503546N, 015523W USING TRISPONDER [2 LOP]. (SCESU, HI 81/80). INS AS NDW PA IN 503550N, 015540W. BR STD. 16.12.81 CONFIRM THAT WK HAD BEEN LIFTED AND MOVED TO CHARTED POSN WITH VIEW TO COMPLETE SALVAGE IN NEAR FUTURE. GUNS ONBOARD OF RARE TYPE AND TO BE DONATED TO IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM. REQUEST THAT NEW POSN TO REMAIN IN CONFIDENCE. (E BENNETT, TELECON 16.12.81). 21.8.84 MORE THAN 20 DEPTH CHARGES HAVE BEEN FOUND ON THIS WRECK, AS WELL AS SMOKE CANISTERS AND 75MM & 40MM AMMUNITION IN BOXES IN READY-USE LOCKERS. HMS VERNON CD TEAM HAS BEEN REQUESTED TO ASSIST BY REMOVING THESE HAZARDS AS WK IS USED FOR TRAINING DIVES. (E BENNETT, TELECON). 21.11.84 STATED TO LIE IN 503452N, 015550W. (A J REED, 23.10.84, IN NR/E31B/2559, DTD 7.11.84). NCA YET. 9.8.89 REPORTED THAT A LARGE GUN FROM THIS WK HAS BEEN LANDED AT SWANAGE PIER AND THAT MR BENNETT IS CONSIDERING TAKING OUT AN INJUNCTION TO PREVENT FURTHER LOOTING. (RECEIVER OF WRECK, POOLE, TELECON). 16.10.90 REPORTED THAT EXPLOSIVE IS EXUDING FROM MORTARS LOCATED IN STERN, & DEPTH CHARGES ON SEABED AT STERN OF WK ARE BADLY CORRODED. SEABED IS ROCKY SLATE. WK IS FAIRLY WELL BROKEN UP WITH SUPERSTRUCTURE STANDING APPROX 3MTRS HIGH IN GEN DEPTH 32MTRS. 2 OERLIKON CANNONS REMAIN, ONE ON & ONE JUST OFF WK. PROPS MISSING. (M MOONEY, 8.10.90). HH090/553/01 17.12.92 NOT FOUND DURING SONAR SEARCH IN CHARTED POSN. LOCAL DIVERS CONFIRM WK LIES IN 503452N, 015550W [BEYOND SURVEY LIMITS]. (HMS ROEBUCK, HI 553A). AMEND POSN. BR STD. HH100/351/08 9.11.93 LOCATED AND DIVED IN 503433N, 015609.5W USING DECCA. PHOSPHORUS SHELLS [?TRACER] HAVE BEEN FOUND ON THE WRECK. (J K WELCH, 13.10.93). CHART AS NDW IN 503433N, 015609.5W. BR STD. 6.10.99 LIES ON PORT SIDE ON ROCK AND SLATE SEABED. HULL HAS A TWIST IN THE MIDDLE. PARTS OF THE SUPERSTRUCTURE REMAIN, AS DOES MUCH AMMUNITION. (DIVER MAGAZINE, OCT 1999). NCA.
