Cause: built in 1921 by new waterway shipbuilding co, schiedam. owned at time of loss by koninkl. nederl. stoomb., maats. four boilers, two turbines, single shaft. machinery by met-vickers elect co ltd, manchester. passage london for bombay. cargo stated to be: 3000tons cement in hold 5; 175tons tobacco and cigarettes in hold 4; 3 hawker biplanes, 30 de havilland tiger moths in hold 1; engines and aircraft spare parts in hold 3; rubber soled sandals in hold 2 and also naafi crockery; copper ingots; 10 horses and 9 dogs. near misses by bombs from german aircraft broke engine room piping and ship flooded while at anchor waiting convoy. vessel was taken in tow and beached in ardmucknish bay. some salvage was done before vessel slipped into deeper water.
