Cause: built in 1877 by w grey & co. west hartelpool. owned at time of loss by zapata ss co. one boiler, compound inverted engine of 120 nhp, single shaft. machinery by ne marine engine co ltd, sunderland. passage stornoway for swansea. stranded very close fisherman's rocks in fog, at night. slipped off rocks and sank. no lives lost. (sibi).

H1280/76/11 20.1.76 LARGE MODERN WRECK FOUND IN 554136N, 063157W. POSSIBLY AROUND 1000 TONS. NUMEROUS SECTIONS OF MACHINERY AND DECK PLATING SCATTERED IN DEEP GULLIES. POSSIBLY THE BLYTHVILLE OR ZAPOTA. (REPORT 'ISLAY '75' BY THE RAF LONDON SUB-AQUA FEDERATION EXPED TO ISLAY, 12-21 SEPT 1975). 23.2.96 WK LOCATED AMONGST THE SOUTHERNMOST OF FRENCHMAN'S ROCKS IN 554136N, 061557W IN 1975. DESCRIBED AS A LARGE WK OF ABOUT 1000 TONS. WRECKAGE CONSISTING OF MACHINERY AND STEEL PLATES SCATTERED AMONGST GULLIES IN THE ROCKS. BELL RECOVERED IN 1983 AND IS ON DISPLAY IN THE MUSEUM OF ISLAY LIFE AT PORT CHARLOTTE. (SHIPWRECKS OF THE W OF SCOTLAND, B BAIRD). INS AS FOUL. BR STD. 28.1.13 NOT LOCATED. AREA TOO SHALLOW ACCESS. (NETSURVEY, HI 1362). NCA.
