Cause: Built in 1919 by ferguson bros ltd, port glasgow. owned at time of loss by ardgantock coasters ltd. single boiler, triple expansion engine, single shaft. machinery aft. passage purfleet for inverness. cargo navigational buoys. foundered following a collision with hms tartar. no men lost.

H6331/87 7.2.89 EXAM'D 7.7.88 IN 543747N, 003223W [OGB] USING TRISPONDER [4 LOP]. LEAST E/S DEPTH 50 IN GEN DEPTH 53MTRS. NO SCOUR. DCS3 HT 3.4MTRS, LENGTH 52MTRS, WIDTH 13MTRS APPROX. LIES 055/235 DEG, POSSIBLY ON ITS SIDE WITH A MAST-LIKE OBJECT ON THE SEABED TO THE NE. (LAND & MARINE, HI 414B). BR STD. HH100/351/13 18.3.98 IDENTIFIED AS 'ARGANTOCH' FROM MAKER'S NUMBER ON STEERING PEDESTAL. (A C JACKSON & C A RACEY, LTR DTD 12.3.98). HH100/351/17 27.4.01 AFT ENGINED COASTER LYING ON PORT SIDE. THE TWO HOLDS HAVE COLLAPSED. SINGLE BOILER EASILY MADE OUT, ENGINE SEEMS TO BE FURTHER OVER, CRANK IS CLEARLY SHOWING. BOW VERY INTACT AND LIES ON PORT SIDE. WHITE CHEESE TYPE WEDGES OF A SUBSTANCE ARE SCATTERED ABOUT THE STERN. ?EXPLOSIVES AND BEST LEFT ALONE. (A C JACKSON/C A RACEY). NCA.
