Cause: ex-st petersburg. built in 1910 by j brown & co ltd, clydebank. owned at time of loss by the great eastern railway co. five boilers, triple s turbines of 10692hp. passage kirkwall for aberdeen. attacked by german aircraft and severely damaged. 40 crew and 12 passengers lost. subsequently beached and broke into four sections. (sibi).

H03451/41 17.5.41 DAMAGED BY BOMBING THEN TOWED AND BEACHED IN POSITION 175 DEG 1 MILE FROM CG LOOKOUT BELHEVIE ON 17.5.41. PROGRESSIVELY DISMANTLED BY SALVAGE COMPANY AND NOW SUBMERGED AT HW. LIES 1.5MILES FROM HW MARK IN 3-4 FMS AND CONSITITES A DANGER TO FISHING CRAFT. (CG ABERDEEN 3.10.41). H03451/41 14.11.41 WRECKAGE WAS BEACHED 17.5.41 IN 571500N, 020040W. NOW CONSTITUES A DANGER TO NAVIGATION. VERY LITTLE OF WK WAS VISIBLE AT HW SPRINGS. (NAVAL CONTROL SERVICE OFFICER, ABERDEEN, LTD DTD 31.10.41). INS AS DW IN 571500N, 020045W.
