Shipwreck details

Name: ANDOLA

Length 84.1 meter, width: 12.5 meter, draught: 7.3, tonnage 2093 ton
Load: grain

Cause: after arriving two months overdue at falmouth following a voyage from tacoma, was ordered to proceed to hull. went aground on northern side of sharks fin rock after tacking across the channel in adverse wind conditions. vessel was built in 1886 by t. royden & sons, liverpool. (cornish shipwrecks, south coast & shipwreck index of the british isles).

Details measurements/cartography: BECAME TOTAL LOSS. SOME SALVAGE CARRIED OUT. MUCH WRECKAGE AND MANY ITEMS OF INTEREST REMAIN ON WK SITE. (CORNISH SHIPWRECKS). H1282/77/116 4.5.77 REPD LOST ON SHARKS FIN ROCK, NEAR PORTHOUSTOCK. (P. R. JONES, 25.2.77). 11.12.80 LIES BETWEEN CARRAG LUZ AND VERVAN ROCKS IN 8MTRS OF WATER. (BSAC WK REGISTER, VOL.III) POSN 500312N, 050313W FOR FILING ONLY. HH351/100/18 9.4.02 MIDSHIP POSN OF WK: 5003.194N, 0503.398W [WGD] USING DGPS. LYING APPROX 127/307DEGS, IN GEN DEPTH 8MTRS [MLWS]. NO WRECKAGE STANDS MORE THAN 2MTRS ABOVE SEABED. DURING THE SUMMER SEASON THE WRECKAGE LOOKS MORE LIKE A NAUTRAL REEF DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF KELP GROWING OVER IT.
