Cause: built in 1867 in newcastle-upon-tyne. two boilers, compound expansion engine of 80 nhp, single shaft. owned at time of loss by j powey, cardiff. passage swansea for st nazaire. struck the three stone oar rocks in thickening mist, was holed and later sank approx 1.5m from st ives head. (sibi).

LAND EFFECT POSSIBLY FROM MAGNETOMETER READINGS, SHIP OF ABOUT 600-1000TONS. (E GILES, 21.6.73). NCA. H2959/73 19.7.73 WK LOCATED IN 501348N, 052936W USING DECCA. MOST LIKELY TO BE PRIMO BECAUSE OF SIZE AND AGE. DEPTHS OF SEABED VARIES FROM 80FT SOME 400 YARDS SOUTH OF WRECK TO 95FT SOME 900 YARDS NORTH OF WRECK. SEABED GENERALLY FLAT, SMALL PATCHES OF SAND AND GRAVEL, AND FLAT ROCK. HULL BROKEN INTO SEVERAL SECTIONS. LIES ROUGHLY N/S WITH BOWS NORTH, REDUCED BY BLASTING, HARDENED INTO SEABED.
