Shipwreck details

Name: ALASTOR

Length 43 meter, width: 5.3 meter, draught: 2.2, tonnage 340 ton

Cause: ex-vita & ex-hms alastor. built in 1927 by camper & nicholson. also build date given as 1937 by lentsch, g de vries, amsterdam. sail with 2 x 8 cylinder aux screw of 56hp. machinery by gleniffer. sold to sir john shelley-rolls. commissioned as training ship in 3.1940. anti submarine yacht in 1.1941. for disposal 6.1945. caught fire & sank. (sii & others).

- NM 2689/53. H6996/53 29.8.61 H6996/53 29.8.61 LIES IN 542705N, 053741W OR 085DEG, 1C FROM NE CORNER OF GHADDY QUAY IN 55-60FT AT LW. LEAST DEPTH 35FT ABOVE HIGHEST POINT (FUNNEL). (D COLE, BSAC). AGREES WITH DESCRIPTION OF ALASTOR, WHICH IS ALSO DESCRIBED AS A MOTOR YACHT. AMEND TO NDW IN 542705N, 053741W.

- NM 1838/61. H5292/71 10.8.72 H5292/71 10.8.72 AMEND TO WK 10.6MTRS. NC 2156. 8.11.04 8.11.04 LIES IN SHELTERED WATER, REMARKABLY INTACT, FUNNEL UPRIGHT. WOODEN DECKS HAVE DECAYED, WHEELHOUSE FALLEN INTO MAIN SALON BELOW. (DIVER MAGAZINE, NOV'04). [WGD] POSN: 5427.093N, 0537.766W.
