Cause: Built 1913 by northumberland sb co ltd, newcastle-upon-tyne. owned at time of loss by empire transport co. ltd (houlder's). three boilers, triple expansion engine, single shaft. passage the tyne for to falmouth and gibraltar. torpedoed while under escort by armed vessels, taken in tow by 2 trawlers but abandoned and sank before reaching shallow water. 3 men lost. stern gun removed by divers and mounted on memorial plinth on whitby west cliff. (ll & sibi). torpedoed by ub-88. (der kreig zur see).
