Cause: built in 1899 by harland & wolff, belfast. owned at the time of loss by white star line. twin quadruple expansion engine, twin shaft. passage liverpool for sydney. torpedoed by uc-66. 23 lives lost, 145 survivors including the captain. (ww1sl, dods & sibi).

ALMOST ENTIRELY COVERED WITH NYLON TRAWL NET, BUT THERE ARE SEVERAL SECTIONS OF MONOFILAMENT DRIFT NET ON THE STERN AND SEABED AMIDSHIPS (PORT SIDE). STBD ANCHOR IN PLACE, PORT ANCHOR HANGING 15FT FROM THE SEABED. CENTRE FLY BRIDGE HAS COLLAPSED BUT THE SUPERSTRUCTURE OF THE MAIN SECTION IS STILL IN PLACE, ALTHOUGH THE TEAK SIDES AND DECK HAVE ROTTED AWAY. TWO BRONZE PROPS IN PLACE. STBD SIDE OF STERN SECTION AND OF THE BOW HAVE STARTED TO COLLAPSE INWARDS. FWD TEAK MAST HAS BROKEN AT THE BASE. WK GENERALLY COVERED WITH A FINE LAYER OF MUD/SILT. CENTRE AND AFT BRIDGES ARE THE HIGHEST POINTS. 2 INCH SHELL CASES FOUND, BUT NO GUN LOCATED. (T WOODCOCK, 1.7.98). NCA.
