Cause: vessel, built 1905 by palmer & co, was torpedoed & sunk by a submarine 35m sw of penmarc'h. vessel was abandoned & the submarine surfaced & began sheling the 2 lifeboats, 1 boat was sunk. 9 were killed & several injured. owned at the time of loss by elder dempster line. (dods). sunk while on passage from montreal to cherbourg. (ll ww1).
